Hi everyone, I am about to move into a small apartment and need a new pc. My old one is over 3 years old and wont start past the bios any-more. What I would like to do is use the monitor as my TV and be able to record high def programs from free to air. I would also like to connect my amp to the pc so I can rum my surround sound and my gaming console (which is connected to the amp.) The primary purpose though is gaming I do not overclock as to me a pc is great when it works but when things go wrong I wouldnt have a clue. This is what I have come up with so far and prices are from MSY, (good for pricing not so good on the advice).
    CPU Intel I5 2500K $219
    MOBO Asus p8268v pro gen 3 $238
    RAM patriot gamer2 8gb 1600 $49
    Storage Intel ssd 120gb sata3 $239
    Seagate baracuda green 2Tb $132
    Graphics Gigabyte ATI 6970 $377
Optical LG Blu Ray readr/writer $85
    Case Coolermaster HAF 922 $118
PSU I have my old Thermaltek 850w
TV Tuner Avermedia video capture/tuner combo $108

What do you think will this set up able me to do what I require?
    Thanks

Yeah your list looks pretty tight man. Though i dissagree with Clacka on needing a Western Digital Caviar Black Drive for your secondary. I have a Caviar Green drive and it's never skipped a beat, and the SSD should give your operating system a lot of pep anyway. Each to their own though but Clacka should know what he's talking about he's killed more PCs then Arnie has killed baddies.

Main thing i would look at is the TV card. Get one with lots of good reviews, i had one a couple of years back but it was sooooo slow in a couple of different PCs. Can't remember the name of it just make sure you're getting a good one.

    Mul.

Thanks guys, I will look into the TV card, The secondary drive will primarily be for storage. would you suggest just picking up a TV and a PVR and ditching the monitor and TV card?
    Cheers

I agree with fishy on the WD Caviar Green drive. The only comment I'd make is be sure there is enough space between the slots on the mother board to fit your video card and the other PCI cards like your TV Tuner. The new system I built earlier this year I can't fit the tuner card and the GTX570 card due to the bulk of the VGA card.

You have an ATI6970 card list so this may not be an issue, but the Nvidia cards were crashing endlessly in BF3 and the solution, which I found after way too much aggravation, was a bios upgrade that raised the core voltage 0.1v and this fixed that stability issue. My point is that in might be a big problem but its a minuscule thing that needs to be fixed.

I would say get a separate TV and bluray player as there will be times when you want to have both on. With regard the sound also get yourself a descent headset with mic. This is because when your on TS and the game is booming in the background and explosions all round, with incoming rounds and your calling us to come save your arse, we will not have a clue what your saying cause we will have turned you down so we can hear ourselves think. The sounds can be fed back through TS from your surround sound system and that makes it really hard to communicate. If you want that great 3D sound there are now some really good 3D headsets available. MSY should have something in stock.

Otherwise go hard and give it to em in the head.

I like your man-pad set up with TV on the puter.
Clacka knows his fans so you better put at least one in each section. Don't forget a small fan on your mouse.

No one mentioned building in a beer fridge between the power supply and the first bank of RAM modules? Must of overlooked it so make sure the case is a little bigger. Do you have any more problems we can help you with?
    Have fun but work but have fun . . . . . . . . . . . All this fun is hard work
